Dive into the world of beer diversity with the certified beer sommelier program at Privatbrauerei Hirt.
Accredited by the Austrian Brewers Association, this training offers comprehensive insight into every aspect of beer – from brewing and sensory skills to expert food pairing. Upon successful completion, you’ll earn the official title of “Beer Sommelier.”
Our fall session is divided into two course blocks:
Block 1:
Monday, September 21 to Wednesday, September 23, 2026
Block 2:
Wednesday, October 7 to Friday, October 9, 2026
(Thursday/Friday: brewing and exam)

Definition and history of beer, plus the Austrian brewing industry
Classification of beer styles
Sensory training and guided tastings
International beer styles with tastings
Beer menus, beer & cocktails, and food pairing
Beer & cheese tasting
Brewing ingredients and raw materials
The brewing process
Sensory analysis of various beer styles
Draft systems and legal requirements
Pouring techniques and draft training
Common serving mistakes
HACCP guidelines
Equipment care and maintenance
Beer and health
Creative and alternative ingredients
Off-flavor identification and tasting
The beer sommelier program also includes:
- Brewery tour
- Brewing Day
- Upon passing the exam, administered by the Austrian Brewers Association, you are awarded the official title “Beer Sommelier,” along with a badge and certificate.
- The program includes lunch, snacks, beverages, and all course materials.
